In Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, statutory national holidays include the Founding Day, Lunar New Year, 228 Peace Memorial Day, Children’s Day, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.

The Directorate-General of Personnel Administration (DGPA) released the official office calendar for 2023, offering eight distinct extended holiday periods consisting of three or more consecutive days, with the Lunar New Year vacation stretching to a full 10 days.

• Founding Day (New Year’s Day): Dec 31, 2022 to Jan 2, 2023 (3 days).
• Lunar New Year Vacation: Jan 20 to Jan 29, 2023 (10 days).
• 228 Peace Memorial Day: Feb 25 to Feb 28, 2023 (4 days).
• Children’s Day & Qingming Tomb Sweeping Day: Apr 1 to Apr 5, 2023 (5 days).
• Dragon Boat Festival: Jun 22 to Jun 25, 2023 (4 days).
• Mid-Autumn Festival: Sep 29 to Oct 1, 2023 (3 days).
• National Day: Oct 7 to Oct 10, 2023 (4 days).
• New Year’s Day 2024: Dec 30, 2023 to Jan 1, 2024 (3 days).

Across 2023, the total number of off-days reaches 116 days. For international travelers and residents planning flights or domestic tours, booking early is highly recommended to avoid peak ticket premiums.

According to official regulations, when a statutory holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the adjacent Monday or Friday is bridged to create a long weekend, with a makeup workday designated on the preceding or succeeding Saturday.
