Recently, advertisements have been popping up online from time to time, claiming that through hacking methods one can break into a school’s academic system, change failing grades to avoid being held back, or even alter the GPA used for school applications.

What I want to say is: poor grades are one thing, but don’t be foolish enough to actually go find a hacker to try to change your grades.

Back when the author was still a student, of all the schools I attended, there wasn’t a single one whose academic system hadn’t been cracked. When bored, I would even break into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology just for fun (if you can’t afford to study there, you might as well take a look around).

Whether it’s changing grades or dropping someone’s elective, it’s all just a snap of the fingers. However, the author only treated breaking into systems as a bit of fun. Even when I failed a subject, I never tried to change my own grades — because that’s just stupid.

Some people may think that changing grades can make their academic career smoother, but in reality doing so brings more problems.

First, you simply cannot guarantee that these hackers won’t sell you out. They might use your information to extort you, or one day in the future expose your misconduct, plunging your life into trouble.

Second, although university academic systems are not that hard to crack, the computer center still has various verification methods, and the means of guarding against hackers are becoming more and more sophisticated. If you try to change your grades, you will very likely be detected by the system, which will record all of your operations.

In addition, schools record grades through many stages. Whether stored on computers or on paper, these can all be used as means of verifying grades. You even have to worry about being sold out by your classmates.

Whichever of the above links goes wrong, once it comes to light, it will have a huge impact and risk on your future academic career.

What’s more, a person’s learning process is a process of self-growth. Our purpose at school is to increase knowledge, not to get a transcript on a piece of paper. If you really want to improve your grades, then study hard! Spend more time on books and ask your teachers and classmates more questions, and you’ll find this brings a greater sense of accomplishment than hiring a hacker to change your grades.

Therefore, I hope everyone will not be tempted by these advertisements and will not try to find hackers to change their grades. Even if doing so brings immediate benefits, it will leave endless trouble. They may exploit your weaknesses and hold you in their grasp. Believe in your own abilities, study hard, and use your own strength to strive for better grades and a better future — that is the real way.
