In the process of developing blogs and business websites, sometimes you need to look up a Facebook ID in order to get support from Facebook developer tools.
Although many websites offer online search tools where you just enter your account URL and the system automatically gets the ID.
However, perhaps due to Facebook’s redesign, many tool websites have basically become junk that simply tricks ad clicks without any actual lookup function.
Some websites even make me suspect they are fake sites specially used by hackers to plant Trojan programs.
Well, actually you do not need those tool websites to manually find your own, or even someone else’s, FB ID (though it is not very meaningful).
How to Manually Look Up a Facebook ID
It only takes 3 steps to look it up, and you do not have to worry about encountering strange websites. The steps are explained below, including:
- Open the Facebook website on a computer’s “web browser” (not through the app);
- Click the name in the upper left corner of the home page to enter your personal page, community page, or community home page. At this point the address bar will be in the format “https://www.facebook.com/xxx”;
- Open the web page source code inspector (for example, Apple Safari can enable the “Show Page Source” function), and search for the values specific to the personal page, community, or fan page such as “entity_id”, “userID”, “pageID”, “fb://profile/”, “fb://group/”, “fb://page/”. The unique dedicated ID is appended after these, and you can directly cut and copy it for use in the website backend program.
Note: Using the Google Chrome web browser, you can press “Ctrl + U” to directly open the source code.
What Is a Facebook ID?
A Facebook unique ID number, or your user ID, is a string of numbers generated when a new account is created. It does not contain personally identifiable information, but can be used to connect to your Facebook profile. It can even be found on search engines corresponding to a Facebook account.
