Many writers do possess a gift for writing, but for most people, writing is a skill that can be learned through time and practice.

When I started writing, I too could not produce a decent sentence. But through constant effort I aimed to become a better writer. Now I, too, have begun to be able to write words that truly meet expectations.

I have met many blog writers who carefully scrutinize and hunt down every tiny error in the text.

I know that feeling, because I too have carefully picked out every error in the text, yet it is still possible to miss some. But such errors do not affect my ability to be a writer. I have made many mistakes, and these mistakes let me understand my own problems clearly, which makes me improve even more.

Remember, none of us are perfect writers.

Writing good words is a skill, but like all skills, it can be learned. If you do not train your writing skill regularly, you will gradually lose it.

The most common mistake many writers make is comparing themselves with other writers.

Each of us has a different writing style and a different learning curve. If you are striving to become a writer, then practice, write more, write every day. Write as much as you can, and especially when you feel you are improving, write a little more.

Improve Your Writing Skills

  1. When you write, don’t keep revising the text right from the start.
  2. Allow yourself to write bad text, without being faulted at every turn.
  3. Allow yourself to use some crazy or imaginative words.
  4. Learn writing techniques.
  5. Stop comparing yourself with others. You are a unique person, and a unique writer.
  6. Invest in yourself and buy some reference materials. Don’t rely entirely on online documents. Buy some real books and use them, and enjoy the feeling of holding a book in your hands.
  7. Write annotations in your reference books or highlight key points with a marker — writing something in your own books is perfectly fine.

We all know Hemingway was an outstanding writer. But he also admitted that he threw away much text that did not meet his standards. He constantly strove to improve his writing skills, just as today’s writers are also improving their writing skills.

You may not be a born writer, but through persistent practice, you too can become an outstanding writer like Hemingway.
