The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States has held several collection events over the past thirty years, letting the names of Earth’s humans travel with spacecraft deep into the universe in search of extraterrestrial civilizations.
Perhaps on a distant alien planet thousands of years from now, a group of unknown creatures will be able to discover proof that we humans once wandered through the universe. Such an alluring romantic sentiment always attracts many people to participate enthusiastically.
The Mars rover “Perseverance,” which made the news in Taiwan a while ago, also recorded the names of 10.9 million people worldwide. Later, due to the enthusiastic response, NASA decided to hold another “Send your name to Mars” event.
Currently, because the U.S. government has not yet decided on the next Mars mission, new names can still be registered.

As an aside, a big reason Perseverance made the news in Taiwan is that its driver, Yen Cheng, was born on the island of Taiwan. In his childhood, because his father, a Republic of China Navy officer, was accidentally sacrificed, he was adopted by Huaxing Children’s Home and spent his youth there, cultivating such an outstanding talent.
However, while our President Tsai Ing-wen praised Yen Cheng on Facebook as the pride of Taiwan, she also directed the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee to wipe out Huaxing Children’s Home. The public therefore questioned that the current government wants to share the glory, yet will not spare even the orphanage that cultivated so many outstanding talents.
