Earlier, in the article “Sharing My Experience with Chunghwa Telecom MOD Multi-Screen Viewing,” we introduced that among the channels Chunghwa Telecom MOD offers for multi-screen viewing, only one — “Happy Space Home Channel” — seemed worth a look.
But the first program I saw introducing interior spaces left me rather disappointed.
The script uses far too many repetitive adjectives — superficial words like British, Italian, large, wide, beautiful, grandeur, shape, technique, ingenuity, value, boutique, texture, space, and so on. For an audience not trained in architecture, honestly all you can feel is that this guy is annoying to listen to.
The only thing that leaves an impression is probably the design director’s title and name, fixed and unchanging at the side of the screen.
Looking at the footage, you can find that many scenes reuse the same shot over and over. That’s just too lazy — it’s clearly a case of writing the article first and then randomly finding some space footage to pad out the video’s running time. And every shot is like a transition animation, gone in a blink, and just as you’re still puzzling over it, the same shot comes again (eye roll).
The next program follows the same method: text first, then images — and this time there isn’t even video, just photos paired in, but it’s equally eye-rolling to the extreme. Many of the interior space photos are actually vertical, and this is the first time I’ve seen a design show present things with black bars on both sides, let alone a professional space photographer producing such photos.
Calming down and thinking it over, if you approach this channel from the angle of wanting to understand architecture and interior design, that’s probably a fundamental mistake. If we look at this channel from the angle of a real estate agent introducing a house, then perhaps it’s not so surprising.
Still, “Happy Space Home Channel” does license some good programs — “Full House Renovation King,” for example, is well worth following. So if you want to watch MOD multi-screen channels on your phone or tablet, the home channel is still worth considering (as long as you can first endure those advertorials).
