Decathlon Canaveral Darts and Target Set Unboxing Review

Recently I bought a dartboard set “Basic Soft Tip Dartboard Set (Darts*3) Canaveral”[1] and a pack of “electronic soft tip dart heads”[2] on the official Decathlon website. The two together cost only 299+79, a total of 378 NT dollars — a high CP-value, cost-effective, and affordable home entertainment product.

There is also an advanced version of the same style, the electronic soft tip dartboard set, priced at 599 NT dollars, with an extra game scorer below the disc. But I personally find it a bit gimmicky (just to pass the time, doing mental math as arithmetic practice), and the design is also quite half-hearted, and this kind of battery-powered product usually has a fairly high failure rate, so I did not consider it at all.

Although Decathlon also has traditional hard dartboards and steel-tip darts, which are less likely to miss the board, this kind of metal dart is more dangerous and easily damages walls, so it is not very suitable for ordinary home environments.

Actually, the dartboard set itself comes with three darts and six dart heads (white pins). Whether to buy extra dart heads is up to personal preference. But based on my own practical experience, I still recommend buying an extra set of the 2BA threaded dart heads shown below (black pins, usable with other darts of the same thread specification (suitable for darts under 20 grams such as tungsten steel darts)), and then just throw away the white ones! The tips of the white dart heads are relatively thick, easily miss the board, and the material is also softer with poor durability.

Soft Tip Dart Heads

Although the darts look a lot like plastic toys, and the flights are especially prone to warping, the weight distribution designed into the shaft and barrel is still quite appropriate, so they can be used to pass the time and train accuracy. Moreover, the best advantage of soft tip heads is that you do not have to worry about damaging the wall and leaving marks (though slight dents may still appear if it is a wooden partition).

Decathlon also offers relatively higher-end soft tip darts, such as the three-dart set priced at 349 NT dollars, each weighing 16 grams, the “CANAVERAL S520” brass darts[3], or the three-dart set priced at 749 NT dollars, each weighing 18 grams, the “CANAVERAL High-End Soft Tip Darts S900” tungsten alloy darts[4]. The quality is a completely different world from the darts included with the set above.

In the actual testing process, after switching to the black pins, the miss rate was not high, but after using them for a while I found that the darts themselves easily loosen, so it is best to twist and check the tightness before each throw.

There is an opening on each side of the dartboard, which can be screwed directly onto the wall. Also, on the back of the 20-point marking there is a hanging hole, which can also be hung on a nail in the wall.

To avoid damaging the wall’s paint, I chose to use “3M Damage-Free Hooks (medium),” but when hung this way it cannot fully adhere to the wall, causing the dartboard to tilt downward a little. Fortunately, the impact during actual throwing is not significant. I suggest that if conditions allow, it is best to nail it directly to the wall, or use the “3M Damage-Free Clear Removable Hook” which would be a bit better.

Finally, a little tip for friends who want to buy this dartboard set: since the dartboard itself is hard plastic, throwing darts produces a relatively loud impact sound. You can stick a layer of felt or a plastic soft pad on the back of the disc to reduce the noise.
