The Kitchen God Festival: in traditional Chinese folk belief, at the end of the year, the Kitchen God, the Tai Sui God, and the various folk deities all return to heaven to report to the Jade Emperor, leaving only subordinate generals to guard the shrines. This is commonly known as sending off the gods.
This day is the 24th day of the 12th lunar month (or a day before or after), when the deities return to heaven from the hour of the rat that day until before sunset. It is not until the evening of the 4th day of the first lunar month, the day of welcoming the gods, after the Kitchen God is welcomed back, that the Kitchen God descends to the mortal world again to continue supervising the good and evil deeds of the household. Therefore, the Kitchen God Festival is also regarded as the beginning of the New Year.
Ordinary traditional families hold sacrificial activities on this day to respectfully send the deities back to heaven to rest.
In fact, since this day also marks the beginning of the days when the deities are not at home, we all take this time to tidy up the deity table, so that when they return there will be a surprise.
But besides tidying up the tabletop and the deity statues, we can actually go a step further and pay attention to electrical safety, especially the lamps on the deity table.
Because these lamps have been in use all year round, the insulation of the wires may become worn. In addition, the smoke and dust pollution from burning incense and candles on the deity table year after year, plus the heat generated by the current, can easily cause the plastic insulation of the wires to undergo a brittle cracking reaction. This phenomenon may cause a fire and bring enormous danger to the family.
Therefore, after the lunar day of sending off the gods, we should take advantage of cleaning the deity table to pay especially careful attention to whether the lamps and wires are in an abnormal state. As long as you find powdering, brittleness, or a charred black color, you must immediately replace the lamps to ensure that all electrical appliances are in good working condition.
In addition, the public should know how to correctly use fire alarms (residential fire alarms) and fire extinguishers, and maintain disaster prevention awareness at ordinary times, so as to be able to react quickly when a fire occurs. This can ensure that people can be quickly evacuated and the spread of the fire controlled when a fire occurs.
