When receiving a telemarketing call from a salesperson or a questionnaire survey, the author actually has a very useful rejection tactic, and a scholar once conducted research verifying the benefits of this technique.

Now let me teach everyone this invincible move: “When the salesperson is speaking the first sentence, and is halfway through it, instantly hang up the phone.”

This technique of hanging up while the other party is still talking, from a psychological perspective, will generate countless life-doubting questions in their mind. Is the phone broken? Did I just step into an elevator? Or did a plane crash? (gets beaten)

The marketing specialist at this point will not develop negative emotions, nor will they think they have been rejected. In this way, they will not harbor resentment and thus develop a desire for revenge, and may even worry on your behalf that something has happened.

From a business perspective, you have not wasted the salesperson’s time; they can quickly find the next duck on the list. This is a win-win strategy — after all, time is money.

Chatting with a Telemarketer

Speaking of which, the author recalls another way to deal with salespeople, but it may not be suitable for everyone.

This move is to chat (and drag things out) with “her”! (I still pick the gender.)

One night, the author received a marketing call from an English cram school, and because I had plenty of free time, I chatted for a while.

But after hanging up, I looked at the clock and was shocked to find that we had been on a free telephone dating call (big mistake) for two hours — the point being that she still had not succeeded in selling anything (facepalm).
