According to the latest news, Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency has revoked the registration and banned the sale of two beauty and skincare products containing mercury, hydroquinone, and tretinoin. Travelers heading to Malaysia should be careful not to buy these two skincare products.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Health agency, the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), recently conducted product testing and analysis and found serious ingredient problems in two beauty and skincare products.
Among them, Airee Beautycare Night Cream contains mercury, while BL Ledehh Day Cream 1 contains hydroquinone and tretinoin. Therefore, the NPRA immediately revoked the registration of these two products and banned their sale.
According to the regulations of Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency, beauty and skincare products containing mercury are not only harmful to health but may also cause damage to the kidneys and nervous system.
The use of mercury can affect brain development in infants and fetuses and may cause rashes, irritation, and other skin changes.
In addition, products containing hydroquinone and tretinoin are controlled medicines and can only be used under the advice of a medical professional.
Using these ingredients without the advice of a medical professional may cause skin redness, discomfort, pigmentation disorders, skin allergies, and reduced protection against ultraviolet rays, increasing the risk of skin cancer.
Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency requires the relevant distributors to immediately stop selling these two products to avoid violating Malaysia’s 1984 Cosmetics and Drugs Control Regulations.
Under these regulations, first-time offenders may face a fine of 25,000 ringgit (about US$5,356), or imprisonment of up to 3 years, or both.
Repeat offenders will face a fine of 50,000 ringgit (about US$10,700), or imprisonment of up to 5 years, or both.
For companies that violate the regulations, the fine may be 50,000 ringgit (about US$10,700), and for repeat corporate violations, the fine may be as high as 100,000 ringgit (about US$21,400).
We remind friends who love to shop for and use foreign beauty and skincare products abroad to carefully read the ingredient list and choose safe and reliable brands. We should avoid using products containing ingredients such as mercury, hydroquinone, and tretinoin to ensure our health and safety, and stay alert when purchasing products. Let us all pay attention to product safety and safeguard our health and beauty.
