Dear travel enthusiasts, if you are planning to travel to Europe for sightseeing after January 1, 2024, please be sure to pay attention to the following important information!
According to the latest official news from the European Union, starting next year, travelers from 60 countries—including the Republic of China (Taiwan)—will need to apply in advance for the “European Travel Information and Authorisation System” (ETIAS) before entering Europe.
ETIAS was established to conduct background checks on travelers who can enter European countries visa-free, in order to ensure Europe’s border security. This authorization system is similar to the United States’ ESTA, providing travelers with a visa-waiver authorization.
The process for obtaining ETIAS authorization is relatively quick. Travelers between the ages of 18 and 70 only need to pay 7 euros to obtain a three-year-valid authorization, while this authorization is free for travelers over 70 or under 18.
The European countries requiring this authorization include the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland, among others[1] — yes, not the United Kingdom 🇬🇧.
It is worth noting that, similar to how ordinary visas are used, travelers holding ETIAS authorization can enter European countries or regions multiple times within any 180 days, for a total stay of up to 90 days.
Europe’s scenery, culture, and cuisine await your exploration. Before embarking on this wonderful journey, remember to prepare and apply online for ETIAS authorization in advance, making your European trip smoother and more reassuring!
