According to reports published by 9to5Mac on June 30[1], Apple has initiated a free repair program addressing logic board defects present in a very limited number of 2018 MacBook Air units.
The report revealed that internal Apple documentation indicates service engineers identified an issue with the logic board in a “very small number” of 13-inch Retina MacBook Air models. This flaw can affect internal power delivery, and in severe instances, prevent the computer from powering on entirely.
Because the volume of affected units is exceptionally low, Apple has not yet listed this issue on its public “Exchange and Repair Extension Programs” portal for a broad general recall.
Instead, Apple is currently reaching out directly via email to owners of registered machines. If you are an owner of a 2018 13-inch Retina MacBook Air, be sure to periodically check your Apple iCloud or registered email inbox.
Once you receive official notice that your unit is potentially impacted, simply bring your device to any Apple Store retail location or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple will provide free component replacement covering eligible hardware for up to four years from the date of original retail purchase.
