Native English speakers with a high level of education generally recognize around 15,000 words. Junior high school students in our country only need to memorize 1,200 words to meet the demands of entrance exams, while 3,000 words are enough to handle everyday life and workplace English conversation, and to freely read 90% of English newspapers and magazines.
Although some people say that memorizing vocabulary is useless, they may be half right—but that only applies once you have already memorized more than 5,000 words. Expanding your vocabulary is always the fastest way to learn English; what comes afterward is how to become more familiar with those words, but how to memorize is another field of study entirely.
In my own process of learning English, I found that directly memorizing vocabulary is the most effective method. However, rather than spending time memorizing a jumble of random words, it is better to memorize the 3,000 most commonly used words; other new words can naturally be learned through contextual association, asking questions, or looking them up in a dictionary.
Therefore, the following 26 articles will list the commonly used words starting with each letter from A to Z.
It would be even better if you can print them on A4 paper, cross out the words you already know, and keep the unfamiliar ones to memorize repeatedly afterward. In this way, you can efficiently memorize all English vocabulary through systematic learning.
