The Central Personnel Administration recently announced next year’s 2015 (ROC year 104) administrative agency office calendar. From the table, we can see that 2015 has 1 more day off than this year (2014), reaching 115 days off, and there is also one more consecutive holiday of three days or more than this year (2014), reaching a total of 6 consecutive national holidays. In addition to the 6-day New Year break, the April Tomb-Sweeping Day (Children’s Day) can even have up to 4 consecutive days off.
When designing this full-year consecutive holiday schedule, I suddenly recalled working at a law firm in the past, where our holidays were relatively disadvantaged. When public agencies had days off, we couldn’t, because our responsibility was to industry clients. When the industry had days off, if public agencies didn’t, we couldn’t either, because we also had business dealings with public agencies (so there was rarely such a thing as taking time off on our own during natural disasters).
The chart below is designed based on the condition of “consecutive holidays of three days or more.” The usual two-day Saturday and Sunday breaks are not specially listed, giving the chart better visibility. They include:
- Spring break: February 18 to February 23, 2015.
- Peace Memorial Day: February 27 to March 1, 2015.
- National Tomb-Sweeping Day (Qingming): April 3 to April 6, 2015.
- Dragon Boat Festival: June 19 to June 21, 2015.
- Mid-Autumn Festival: September 26 to September 28, 2015.
- National Day: October 9 to October 11, 2015.
2015 Consecutive Holiday Schedule
The reason 2015 has so many consecutive holidays stems from our rules on making up days off. Article 5-1 of the “Implementation Measures for Commemorative Days and Festivals” states that “when a day off for a commemorative day or festival falls on a regular day off, a make-up day off shall be given: for Saturday, make up on Friday; for Sunday, make up on Monday”.
In 2015, Peace Memorial Day (February 28), Children’s Day (April 4), National Tomb-Sweeping Day (set on Qingming), Dragon Boat Festival (lunar May 5), Mid-Autumn Festival (lunar August 15), and ROC National Day (October 10) all happen to fall on Saturday or Sunday. Among them, Children’s Day and Qingming, two consecutive days, happen to fall on Saturday and Sunday respectively, so Friday and Monday each get one make-up day off.
I hope everyone can make good use of these consecutive holidays for various commemorative days and festivals, and enjoy life more amid the tight, busy work. ;-)
By the way, one of Sean Lien’s campaign promises was to make Christmas a holiday too, adding one more consecutive holiday. If this promise could come true, I imagine… obstetricians would be even busier (just kidding).
